Our Mission

BEA will oppose any legislation that would mandate or designate preferred fuels for the generation of electricity in Arkansas. Mandating the use of one particular fuel over another would lead to higher and more volatile electric rates.

Balanced Energy Arkansas (BEA) is a coalition of allied companies and organizations who are dedicated to ensuring reliable, low-cost electricity for Arkansas’s consumers, businesses, and farmers. Higher electricity prices would threaten jobs in every sector of Arkansas’s economy, and would significantly harm our state’s ability to recruit new industry and create new jobs.

Making Arkansas Brighter…

“A reduction in economic efficiency that will result from a legislative restriction on production options amounts to corporate welfare for the natural gas industry at the expense of increased electrical rates for Arkansans, the potential displacement of industry, and the loss of jobs.”

Dr. Richard Ford and Dr. Phillip Taylor, THE ELECTRICITY INDUSTRY AND ARKANSANS: An Economic Impact Study

Our Belief

BEA believes that utilities, with oversight from the Public Service Commission, are the most qualified entities to determine the most cost-effective, reliable, and efficient fuels for producing electricity for Arkansas consumers. Arkansans for Low-Cost Electricity (ALCE) will oppose any new fuel source mandates on utilities and will work to defeat special-interest legislation that would increase electric rates, decrease reliability, threaten Arkansas jobs, and make our state less competitive in the global marketplace.
